What it assesses
Four themes: environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. Together they cover 21 criteria, and each theme's weight depends on the company's industry, size and countries.
It is not a certification
It is a rating based on documents. The company answers a questionnaire, uploads evidence and an analyst reviews it. There is no site audit.
Score and medals
The score runs from 0 to 100. Medals are awarded by percentile against the companies assessed in the past 12 months: Platinum for the top 1%, Gold for the top 5%, Silver for the top 15% and Bronze for the top 35%. With any theme below 30, there is no medal.
How long it lasts
The score and the medal are valid for 12 months.
Where carbon fits
In the energy and emissions criterion of the environment theme, and in a separate Carbon Rating for companies with 25 or more employees. Both require the inventory to cover 95% of operations.
