Glossary

RETC

Short for Registro de Emisiones y Transferencias de Contaminantes, Chile's Pollutant Release and Transfer Register.
In one sentence

Chile's public register of the emissions, waste and pollutant transfers that facilities declare.

Who runs it

The Ministry of the Environment. It is governed by Supreme Decree No. 1 of 2013, amended in 2018.

RETC and Ventanilla Única

They are two things. The RETC is the register. Ventanilla Única is the way in: those who must register and report can only do so through it, at portalvu.mma.gob.cl, with a RUT and ClaveÚnica.

Inside there are twelve sector systems. Each facility declares in the ones that apply to it.

Who is required

The list is in article 18 of the regulation. It includes facilities that generate more than 12 tonnes of waste a year. You do not need a smokestack to be covered.

What it has to do with a carbon footprint

Article 41 of Law 21.455 says that facilities required to declare through Ventanilla Única must report their greenhouse gas emissions every year. The detail depends on a regulation.

As of October 13, 2026 we did not find that regulation published in the Official Gazette.
