ISO 14064

In Chile, the first part was adopted as NCh-ISO 14064-1:2019.
In one sentence

The family of ISO standards for quantifying, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions.

The three parts

ISO 14064-1:2018 covers the quantification and reporting of an organization's emissions and removals. It is the one used for a corporate footprint.

ISO 14064-2:2019 deals with reductions or removals at project level.

ISO 14064-3:2019 is the verification and validation standard, the one the verifier follows.

The six categories

ISO 14064-1 does not talk about scopes. It organizes the inventory like this:

  1. Direct emissions and removals.
  2. Indirect emissions from imported energy.
  3. Indirect emissions from transportation.
  4. Indirect emissions from products used by the organization.
  5. Indirect emissions associated with the use of the organization's products.
  6. Indirect emissions from other sources.

There is no ISO 14064 certification

It gets mentioned often, but there is no management system certificate. What you obtain is a verification statement, issued by an independent third party that reviews the inventory under ISO 14064-3.

Where it is used in Chile
